Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for the year 2018-19


Amanullah Kanrani of Hamid Khan group was elected president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for the term 2018-2019.

Kanrani was backed by the Hamid Khan Group and Mr. Ali Ahmed Kurd, backed by Asma Jahangir group.

A total of 3,047 voters were to elect the 22-member body of the SCBA.

The Lahore registry had 1291 registered votes while the Karachi registry had 504. In Islamabad, there were 484 registered votes while Peshawar had 280 votes. Quetta, Bahawalpur and Multan had 196, 89 and 203 registered votes respectively.

Polling stations were set up in Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Lahore, Multan, Bahawalpur, Islamabad and other cities. The turnout in Wednesday’s elections remained 62 per cent.

According to the SCBA policy, the president of the bar is elected from different province each year as per rotation policy. The slot of the president had been reserved for Balochistan this year with Kurd and Kanrani vying for the president’s slot.

The SCBA body consists of the president, four vice-presidents (one from each province), secretary, additional secretary, finance secretary and 14 members elected from throughout Pakistan (at least two from each province).

Mr.  Irfan Mir Halepota, Advocate was supporting the independent Group during Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for the year 2017-18.
